Third Eye Vision

In august, I had the honour of designing the flyer for the first ever Third Eye Vision dance. Third Eye Vision is a project by musicians and selectors NaN_sounds and Ghostpoet that aims to rescue Berlin nightlife from the bounds of genres and to create experiences in music and dance as an art form accessible to every soul longing for a safe space in this city. The event was a major success and a beautiful experience for open genre listeners and dancers.

Flyer Design

First Draft

The initial direction for the project was taken in the realm of character design, incorporating a motif that is associated with auspicious beginnings in south asian cultures – the Nazarbattu, re-purposed to become the face of a dance series that aims to be a regular event in Berlin. While the organizers liked the air of fun and excitement that the character lent to the flyer, it was decided to change the direction into something more culturally ambiguous and yet relatable. It was also the wish of the organizers to bring a bit more queerness to the design and avoid taking the visual que of the “Third eye” too literally. The initial drafts and concept sketches can be seen in the pictures to the right and below.

Final Draft
The second and final round of designing the flyer borrows the likeness of plants, luscious lips and gramophones, which led me to the creation of this illustration. The idea for it came to me during a conversation with one of the organizers, we were putting out words that came to us when we thought of the event. Needless to say we found the perfect representation for the dance and I got to drawing immediately. Final Flyer can be seen to the right, concept sketches below.
